Sterling Shepard has been behind Odell Beckham Jr. since he arrived in the league. That didn’t stop him from making an immediate and significant impact as soon as he came into the league.

Over his last three seasons he’s put up WR3 numbers as the Giants haven’t really been in a position to let it fly with Eli Manning behind center. Depending on what happens this offseason, I think Shepard is in for another WR3 season whether the Giants draft another QB or not.

If Eli starts again this season, it’ll limit Shepard’s big play ability and he’ll hit his averages again. If they draft a young QB and let him start, it will take time for him to get used to the NFL stage. With the Giants adding Golden Tate to the mix, along with Engram and Barkley, I don’t see Shepard being a legitimate WR2 until maybe next season. I think the Giants locking him up long-term was a good decision for the future, but he won’t put up stats that show his value for a year or two longer.

Shepard currently has an ADP of 9.11 or the 11th pick in the ninth round of fantasy drafts according to Fantasy Football Calculator. I wouldn’t be against drafting him there and I feel like that’s not a bad place to take him. Players I might take before him would be Courtland Sutton, Devin Funchess, and Corey Davis. Shepard will be a decent WR3 for you this season, but don’t expect him to explode with OBJ out of town.
