Julian Edelman has long been one of the more reliable targets for Tom Brady. When you think of the Patriots, you think of Belichik, Brady, Gronk, and Edelman.

Gronk has now retired, and Chris Hogan is now on the Panthers. That leaves 126 targets open for the rest of the available pass-catchers for the Patriots. I think Edelman will see a good portion of those leftover targets. Yes, they just signed Austin Seferian-Jenkins, but he’s not the player Gronk was and doesn’t demand the same amount of targets.

Edelman put up 74/850/6 in only 12 games last season. If we extend that to a 16 game season, Edelman would’ve put up 98/1,133/8. Very solid and high-end WR2 numbers for your squad, and even serviceable WR1 numbers if you want to load up on RB’s.

Edelman is going to turn 33 this offseason, but I don’t see any signs of him not being an effective weapon for the Patriots. They’ll find ways to use him, and successfully at that.

Julian Edelman currently has an ADP of 5.01, or the first pick of the fifth round, and now that the team has opened up even more targets for him, I could see him having the biggest season he’s had since 2013. I’d draft him ahead of Brandin Cooks, Tarik Cohen, and Tyler Boyd. Draft him in the mid-to-late fourth round and you may land yourself a very consistent fantasy player for the entire season.
