When news broke out about former Pittsburgh WR Antonio Brown being traded to the Oakland Raiders, I wanted to get the entire TakedownFantasy staff involved and share their opinions on what kinda season they expect from Antonio Brown. Without further a do, let’s get started!
Dylan: I think AB’s fantasy value takes a huge hit going from the Steelers to the Raiders. First thing first, we have no idea what kinda chemistry AB and Derek Carr will have, but we know it won’t be as good as AB’s and Big Bens. I think AB will be inconsistent in this offense similar to how Amari Cooper was during his tenure with the Raiders. Yes I know AB is way better than Cooper, but check this out. Brown saw 13+ targets in 7 of 15 games alone. Derek Carr has 5 games in his entire career where a WR has been targeted 13+ times in a game. I think he finishes as a low-end WR1.
Donovan: AB going to the Raiders has a ripple on his fantasy impact. He’s going to an offense that is expected to have a new set of skill players. He will be the focal point of the offense and will once again, funnel targets and receptions. Derek Carr has shown enough to where we can say AB’s value doesn’t plummet. I think we can all expect another top-10 fantasy WR year for AB.
Johnny: On paper, AB going to the Raiders makes sense but I’m skeptical. I’m mainly worried because I believe Gruden wants to move on from Derek Carr, which is a huge mistake in my book. With that being said, AB’s fantasy value is up in the air. With Carr hopefully under center and with the hopes the Raiders improve their OL, AB’s value is through the roof! We will see how the offseason plays out.
RJ: I think AB to the Raiders will be good in the sense that he could push for 200 targets. The Raiders already know that AB will be their best bet to move tha chains throughout the game so he needs to be a target machine. It will be interesting to see if their is any chemistry between AB and HC John Gruden. We all know how Keyshawn Johnson and Gruden were back in the day, but I think AB will be happy in Oakland. In his first year with the Raiders, im predicting a 120/1200/9 stat line for AB. We will see how the rest of the offseason pans out.
Bailey: Last nights trade between the Raiders and the Steelers shook up the NFL community. As far as fantasy implications go, I believe that AB’s fantasy value has dropped. Oakland is in the middle of a rebuild and struggled in the passing game last season. There is no question that AB will improve the productivity of the offense but overall, anticipate the numbers for AB to decline in 2019. Im predicting that AB will be a consensus second round pick in the upcoming fantasy football drafts.
Gabe: For 6 straight seasons AB has commanded 171 targets per season on average. Those targets are way more than Cooper ever saw. With that being said, the fear is that Derek Carr wont force it to AB like Big Ben did. With the Raiders surrounding AB with Brandon Lafell and Seth Roberts, he should get a fair amount of targets but expect a ton of coverage sent his way due to the fact he’s one of the only playmakers on this roster. Overall, im predicting a 95/1,200/12 statline.
