The NBA All-Star weekend is in full effect on Saturday as we have three contests filled with talented players trying to make their cities proud. Big names such as Nikola Jokic, Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and Kemba Walker will try to prove to everyone why they are in these competitions in the first place. Young players like Luka Doncic, Trae Young, De’Aaron Fox, and Kyle Kuzma will all be pushing for the skills challenge trophy as they attempt to prove themselves as young stars. It’s looking like an exciting schedule for Saturday, so buckle up.

Skills Challenge

The NBA Skills Challenge is a set of obstacles placed on the court in which the players have to complete each event to move on to the next. Participants include:

  • Luka Doncic
  • Trae Young
  • De’Aaron Fox
  • Mike Conley
  • Nikola Jokic
  • Jayson Tatum
  • Kyle Kuzma
  • Nikola Vucevic

It seems to be a very young and exciting group of players, with the lone weathered NBA veterans being Mike Conley and Nikola Vucevic. Nikola Jokic has a few good years on his resumé as well as he’ll look to try and earn some credit for big men on the court. Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic are two of the more exciting names in this competition. Tatum has established himself as one of the best young players in the league, and projects to be an All-Star for years to come. Luka Doncic was snubbed from the All-Star game this year as he has averaged 20.7 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 5.6 APG so far this season and has been sensational for the Mavericks. This competition is full of amazing NBA talent that have proven that they all belong in the NBA.

Prediction: Luka Doncic will win the 2019 skills challenge, but he will not only win it, he’ll beat Deron Williams record of 25.5 seconds.

Dunk Contest

Miles Bridges, Dennis Smith Jr., Hamidou Diallo, and John Collins all make up the participants for the dunk contest this year. They’ve all showcased their impressive leaping ability enough times this year to garner a selection for the contest. Hamidou Diallo has helped the OKC Thunder into playoff contention, while Dennis Smith Jr. is on the Knicks who had lost 18 straight games before their win over the Hawks. Speaking of the Hawks, John Collins has impressed this year with 19.5 PPG and 9.5 RPG so far this year. The high-flyer from Charlotte, Miles Bridges, has had his fair share of mesmerizing dunks this season, and will look to keep it going with a win in the dunk contest.

Prediction: Miles Bridges will score a 45 or better on every dunk and will win the 2019 NBA Dunk Contest.

3-Point Contest

With tons of big names such as Steph Curry and Damian Lillard this year, it is set to be a star studded event. The Curry brothers will compete against each other in a competition filled with brotherly love, but I’m sure we all know they’ll both be gunning to win this year for bragging rights in the family. Joe Harris is scoring 14 PPG while shooting an astonishing 47.1% from the 3-point line. He might be getting looked over this season, but don’t be surprised if he comes out on top. Devin Booker is a young stud who isn’t afraid to let it rip when it comes to launching threes from anywhere on the court. He’s a fantastic scorer and has proven it throughout his time in the league. Khris Middleton, Kemba Walker, Buddy Hield, Damian Lillard, Danny Green, and Dirk Nowitzki make up the rest of the player field for the competition and the are no slouches. Dirk may try to pull a fast one on everybody and sneak away with a victory. Don’t be surprised if somebody comes from the shadow’s and takes the 3-point crown.

Prediction: I think Steph Curry showcases his unhuman like ability to shoot from the arc. He’ll put up his best competition score in his career and come out with a victory.

This All-Star slate is set to be an exciting one, with a star studded field and many up-and-comers, there is no way it’ll dissapoint. The only thing that may be better than today’s event’s, may be tomorrow’s All-Star game.
